that former cia director david petraeus will testify before the senate intelligence committee tomorrow. that information is coming to us from kelly o'donnell who spoke to a veteran senator on capitol hill and, of course, it comes as some tough questions are expected today for president obama. he's giving his first news conference since being re-elected. he will meet the press at 1:0 this afternoon and probably should be prepared to answer some tough questions about general petraeus and allen and the fbi investigation as well as libya, not to mention the fiscal cliff and we're learning more about the woman who knew both general, tampa socialite jill kelley. a senior defense official says the e-mails between the two were more than just calling one another sweetheart, they were flirtatious and unprofessional. both of them wrote letters vouching for her sister in a child custody case and she made this phone call claiming she had some sort of diplomatic status which she does not. >> i am an honorary consul-general so i have unveilability so i should -- they should not be going across my pro

at the cia in recent years when he was charge of it so i'm not surprised he turned around but that he could back out, he thought. >> not what president obama wanted to talk about at his first post-election briefing but what is the first question about? >> about general petraeus, general allen and this entire context of what is happening in the senior military leadership. what was going on with jill kelley and what, if anything, it has to do with the underlying story of libya and the cia's involvement there. i mean there's more and more information, some of it opaque, some of it becoming a little more defined that it was the cia, not the state department, that had the lead role in either securing or being a part of whatever that consulate activity was in benghazi. now, maybe there are things the president cannot disclose at an open press conference but this testimony that general petraeus will give behind closed doors may be able to shed some light on libya, cia and what may have been some of the motives of those terrorists who attacked on 9/11. we'll find out. >> yeah, the big question abou

petraeus' replacement at the cia mike morell met tuesday. he'll speak with counterparts on the house side today about the scandals, the national security implications, why congress wasn't told soon er and, also, e assume benghazi will come up. joining me now the national investigative correspondent michael isikoff and capitol hill correspondent kelly o'donnell. kelly, let me start with you before i get to mike on the latest on the general scandal itself. congress continues to basically wring their hands over why didn't they know sooner on this front. are they getting any more answers today? >> reporter: well, they expect to get more answers as there is now a kind of greater spirit of providing answers. we've seen the top people from the cia, the acting director who was here yesterday back again today, also the deputy director of the fbi coming to talk to the key members who are on those committees. they would have jurisdiction here, who believe they should have been in the loop at some point. so that's one issue. but a lot of this gets conflated with concerns about what actually happened

to resigning as cia director. you know that already. now another four star general, john allen, is connected to the scandal. we will also look at who's who in this growing scandal. we will map out the key players and connect some of the dots. first, the big question tonight is who authorized the investigation which led to petraeus' stepping down and why? we know his extramarital affair was discovered when this woman, jill kelley, complained about anonymous and what might be considered mildly harassing e-mails. new tonight, a source tells cnn that kelley first mentioned the e-mails in a casual conversation with an fbi agent in may whom she knew. a casual conversation. the source tells us the fbi agent said, let me check it out. the fbi has been on the case since then, and now kelley finds herself in the middle of this drama. new tonight, we hear her voice for the first time in a 911 call to tampa police over the weekend. she called to complain about the people outside her house. listen. >> you know, i don't know if by any chance, because i'm an honorary council general so i have inviolability

, you need to tell me the head of the cia uses gmail? [inaudible] >> to communicate? it just struck me that i'm very concerned about the. and, obviously, there will be some areas into this but i see this coming, and apparently he has agreed to testify, as he should, like everybody involved should be testifying in his and provide as much openness as possible. i look forward to the committee taking a lead on that. [inaudible] >> some of your colleagues on ssi, senate republicans are time of making a deal with with democrats to find a compromise. first of all, what do you make of those efforts? second, how far are you willing to go to to strike an immigration deal with democrats? >> well, that is a good question and i wouldn't have been surprised if i didn't hear it. i think that, i seen a bit of a pattern over the years of people coming into this congress and taking a look at the immigration issue and thinking that they have been negotiation skills to resolve one of the most complicated and convoluted and far-reaching issues that i've seen in this congress. i do think there is a simple s
